Advice for Skin of Colour
Patients with skin of colour are being advised to make the most of the last few weeks of winter/spring in order to treat any pigmentation problems before the summer months.
Founder of Clinicbe Skin of Colour, Dr Barbara Kubicka, says that patients with black, Asian or mixed-parentage skin types are especially susceptible to pigmentation problems, including patchy areas of darker pigmentation and uneven skin tone.
Professional treatments and skin care regimes are now available that can significantly reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, but it is best to start them in the cooler months of the year.
Dr Kubicka explains:
“Getting on top of pigmentation makes a big difference to the appearance of the skin. A more even skin tone will have a beautiful clarity and radiance which looks fresh and appealing.
“However, as soon as the summer months appear, the skin is under attack again from the sun’s rays. Pigmentation problems will only get worse once sun exposure is increased.
“The best time of year to treat pigmentation is towards the end of the winter, after any residual tan has faded and before the sun starts to create new melanocyte activity, stimulating and triggering more hyperpigmentation problems.”
